Many of the things it asks you to do I cannot do because the files haven't been automatically generated considering my game has at no point actually launched. I've read there are many issues with Mac Mojave.

Sims 3 Unknown Error Occurred
- edited January 2013I had the exact problem when I installed the Ambitions expansion pack - any solutions?
- edited January 2013i've had this issue before with the main sims 3 game. I've had mostly online downloads for my installations and recently tried Origin's online beta for Mac. When i installed just the sims 3 base game i received the error unknown message. Even after installing seasons it wouldn't let me get past that error. Here's where my specific actions fixed it; i uninstalled seasons, and started the uninstaller for the base game and left it at the screen where you select which installation to download (basegame, adventures, etc), the next screen would confirm... I started the game with the uninstaller open and it then asked me if i'd like to update, getting me past whatever was causing the error message. The only logical thing i can apprehend from this was the uninstaller being open while starting the base game, or uninstalling an add-on/expansion and then (with or without the uninstaller open i'm not sure) opening the base game... I know this is confusing but try with the uninstaller open but not all the way to the actual process of removing files.

I was having the same problem, and also, Ambitions was not highlighted in the Launcher, but doing what you said, it didn't give me the 'unknown error occured' message, and ambitions was highlighted, Thank you! - edited March 2013this is happening to me too. i cant get the launcher open without the message popping up.
- edited May 2013If your kinda new like me to mac, and always played sims on windows, mac doesn't have an uninstaller thing, so i looked around to find out how to uninstall my game, because i downloaded some bad CC and just had to uninstall then reinstall. so once i uninstalled (just deleted every file related to sims 3 on my mac, then emptied the trash bin) when you update your game, it keeps giving me that 'error occurred' message, i tried a good somthing like 10 times to try get it to work again -.-' so i went looking for answers and later found in a folder under the sims 3 apps that they give you an uninstaller, use that, and then it worked for me when reinstalling the game.
- edited June 2013i only have the base game downloaded (im a pc girl whos trying on the mac for the first time so wanted to check it worked okay first) but i cant get the launcher to load at all, it just keeps coming up unknown error!
- edited June 2013This happened to me recently when I was reinstalling my game, and the first time I opened it with the base game and WA installed, it said the exact same thing. I did look for help but what I ended up doing was just uninstalling it, and installing it again.
But I also find if you install with the disc, instead of off Origin, it works much better, but this is from my own personal experience. Plus, it installs SO much faster.
Also, I've found that after each install, make sure you open the launcher (if you can that is) and do the first update, but when it asks again, don't. But if the base game is the only one you're going to install, then I guess you could try to do that update as well, but mine seemed to crash twice when I tried.
You just have to be patient I guess.
Hope that helps. - edited July 2013Because I can't update my mac, I can't download any custom content from the exchange or TSR, does anyone know how to bring this to the attention of EA so they can fix it? I bought this game so I can play it and I payed GOOD money for it. :!:
- edited September 2013FOUND A QUICK CLEAN SOLUTION!
I've Been Having Trouble With This EVERY time I get my laptop back and reinstall sims and an expansion pack. This is what I did:
1. Uninstall sims + all expansion packs.
2. Delete all com.transgramming files (if you have any)
3. Restart your computer.
4. Reinstall the BASE GAME ONLY.
5. The message will most likely still come up. (If not, good for you enjoy!)
6. Zip or Compress the sims 3 folder (should be containing the base, readme & uninstaller)
7. Delete the Folder you zipped, leave the COMPRESSED/ZIPPED file
8. Empty your trash and make sure no sims files remain just the zip file.
9. Open your zip file
10. Update when prompted & Voila! - edited September 2013Here's what worked for me. If you don't have any expansion packs and you have this error this won't help.
1. If you haven't installed all your expansion packs finish installing it.
But uh this won't work if you already have your base game and expansion packs installed. This is what my cousin told me and it worked but this might not work for you. - edited September 2013I hate this error. I'm running Mac OS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion, I believe) on a new iMac. It takes me dozens of uninstalls and reinstalls to get the game working, and even then I'm not sure why it sudden;y decides to work. I don't have an uninstaller in my sims 3 folder, just the game and the readme. Maybe it's not installing properly??
I miss my old iMac. The one that did everything it was supposed to. The one that had a CD drive built into it. Sigh. - edited September 2013I installed the game under my administers login, and I'm able to play the game when I log in as a guest
