A ticket to the third rendition of College Football Playoff championship game has been the toughest to attain by far.

Mac Championship Game Ticket Cost

The cheapest seats hours before Monday’s title game were going for more than $1,700 and inventory was low on the secondary ticket market. Demand has been driven largely by Clemson fans who are looking to avenge last year’s loss to Alabama. StubHub has seen 30% of its sales for the contest come from South Carolina, according to data provided to USA TODAY Sports.

“A lot of this is due to location, which is a big reason we’ve seen such high demand,” StubHub spokesperson Cameron Papp said. “The past two playoff titles games were, to be honest, a little underwhelming.”

Fans in Alabama comprise 9% of StubHub’s sales for title game in Tampa. According to online ticket seller and tracking site TicketIQ, the average listing price for a ticket on Clemson’s side of Raymond James Stadium was going for $2,200, about $500 more than the Alabama’s side.

Tickets on SeatGeek and other secondary ticket sites were going for as low as $100 when the Tigers and Crimson Tide played in Arizona last January.

“We have seen prices bounce around a bit in the past 10 days, but they have really never been higher than they are now,” SeatGeek spokesperson Chris Leyden said in an email to USA TODAY Sports. “Ninety percent of sporting events we see prices fall leading up to the game, but this game clearly falls in that other 10 percent. I do think many Clemson and Alabama fans were aware of how much prices dropped last year, and may have been hoping to wait out the market this year.'

The average selling price on TicketIQ for last year’s contest was $610. The first College Football Playoff title game in January 2015, which featured Ohio State vs. Oregon, had an average sale price of $858.

This year’s title game had an average asking price of $3,418 and a maximum asking price of more than more than $27,000 hours before kickoff.

“There is so little supply on the market,” TicketIQ spokesperson Jesse Lawrence said. “I’m down here and I must have run into 300 Clemson fans looking for tickets. There’s not enough supply for ticket prices to come down at this point.”

The most expensive college tittle game TicketIQ has tracked this decade was the BCS championship between Auburn and Oregon in January 2011. The average asking price for that contest was $2,992 with the cheapest seat going for $1,750.

Big 12 Championship Game Tickets

The MAC Football Championship Game is a football game between the winners of the East and West divisions of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) to determine the conference champion. The game has been played since 1997, when the conference was first divided into divisions and since 2003 has been sponsored by Marathon Petroleum (officially known as the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game). The winner of the game is guaranteed a berth in a bowl game which the MAC has contractual obligations to field a team. Unlike the MAC's Group of Five contemporaries, which hold their respective championship games on campus sites, the MAC Championship Game is held at a neutral site, Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan since 2004.

In 2000, 2001, and 2007, due to an unbalanced conference schedule, the team with best division record within each division was awarded that division's championship game berth. In other years, the teams with the best overall conference records received a berth.

The game is held on the first Saturday in December, on the same weekend that other NCAA Division I FBS conferences hold their championship games.
